History

History of Peace Evangelical Centre Kindergartens

In September 1988, the sponsoring body of our kindergarten founded the first kindergarten named Peace Evangelical Centre Kindergarten (Shatin). The first kindergarten of Peace Evangelical Centre is located in Shatin Wai Wah Centre with an area of about 4,000 square feet and a total of 190 students. In the beginning, there were only 8 students. Thanks to the efforts of the founding Principal Wong Siu Lan and the other two teachers, we now have 743 students in total for the four kindergartens. We adopt the curriculum introduced by Small World Christian Kindergarten: “Biblical Foundation for Early Childhood Education” and “Montessori Teaching Curriculum”. Christian values and student-centered approach are being used. According to the statistics, more than 20,000 schools around the world implement the Montessori teaching method.

After the establishment of the first kindergarten, the sponsoring body set up the second kindergarten in 2001. It is located in Tsing Yi Cheung Wang Estate with an area of about 8,000 square feet. It can accommodate 300 children. In 2002, God granted us the third kindergarten located in Sheung Mun House, Upper Ngau Tau Kok Estate. It covers more than 6,000 square feet with a total of 200 students. After years of hard work, Peace Evangelical Centre’s fruit of education receives recognition from all walks of life.

Since the establishment of the third school, the principals realized the importance of inter-school cooperation. Hence, the Peace Evangelical Centre Kindergarten Educational Development Committee, EDC for short, was formed. The three principals have regular meetings to exchange ideas of school management and launch joint-kindergarten training programs for all the teaching staff.

In June 2008, the successful application of the fourth kindergarten in Tin Shui Wai Tin Ching Estate marks the milestone in the history of Peace Evangelical Centre Kindergartens. It has an area of around 9,000 square feet. We are glad that we have the chance to serve families in Tin Shui Wai. Under our guidance, children’s characters and behaviors have been greatly improved as well as their interests in learning and abilities. Peace Evangelical Centre Kindergartens are therefore well-recognized by educators and gain popularity among parents.

From 2014 onwards, Principal Ho Shuk Yee has joined the Peace Evangelical Centre Kindergarten Educational Development Committee and became the executive director for educational development of the four kindergartens. She puts great effort in training leaders in the four kindergartens. The chairperson, Principal Ho, as well as Principal Chow Yuk Lai, Principal Fok Wing Shan, Principal Koo Mei Sze and Principal Wong Mei Wah, work together to exploit educational resources and achieve educational ideals. The members of EDC include the Vice principal Kong On Shan and Senior Teachers: Choi Wing Yan, Cheung Nga Lai, Hung Lok Sum, Tin Wai Sum, Tsui Hiu Lai and Ng Pui Sze.  Under the grace of God, all members inspire each other and work hand-in-hand to develop their full potential and advance the educational affairs with the times. We have shared vision and mission — spares no effort to provide quality education for children. We have a team of more than 100 administrative staff, teachers and minor staff. We attach great importance to teacher trainings. We have international certified Montessori training and regular teaching training every year. In addition, each year staffs of the four kindergartens gather together to be refreshed spiritually with the Word of God.  At the same time, we exchange and share our teaching experience.

We would like to build our kindergartens that are pleasing to both God and people with the spirit of Christian education ideals. Education is a life-on-life behavior. We would like to inspire children, trigger their interests in learning, and enable them to fulfill their missions— “Happy to learn, good at communication, be creative, releasing potential, daring to bear responsibility and loving God and people around!”
