 Summary of Activities

      The school organized a variety of activities related to Chinese culture, cuisine, art, and more, giving children opportunities to learn about Chinese traditions and the origins of Chinese festivals from a young age. These activities also taught children to appreciate Chinese art and cultivated their sense of national identity.

      K1 children explored themes and sub-themes: New Year, National Day, and the Dragon Boat Festival by designing and participating in different hands-on activities, which allowed them to experience the fun and festive atmosphere of the festivals. The theme “Asian Cuisine” helped K2 children understand that Hong Kong is part of China and strengthened their sense of belonging to the country. The students tasted a traditional Chinese snack-Tanghulu (sugar-coated fruit). K3 children explored themes and sub-themes: “Clothing Around the World,” “New Year,” and “Anniversary of Hong Kong’s Reunification” by designing and participating in different hands-on activities, which allowed them to experience the fun and festive atmosphere of the festivals. They also made and tasted Chinese delicacies such as Tanghulu (sugar-coated fruit) and tangyuan (glutinous rice balls).

2. Events for the Whole School

2.1 Chinese Cultural Activity Day

-The school hosted a “Chinese Cultural Activity Day” to allow children to learn about Chinese musical instruments, printing techniques, and costumes, and to deepen their understanding of Chinese culture through experiential activities and performances.

2.2 Anniversary of Hong Kong’s Reunification and Chinese Cultural Day

-Through activities, children learned that July 1st is a significant day marking Hong Kong’s reunification with its motherland. We cultivated their sense of belonging to China by letting them observe China’s national flag, the national anthem, and Hong Kong’s regional flag. Children played different instruments and made various crafts to learn about Chinese culture.

-The school hosted a “Family Lunar New Year Fun Fair” to promote Chinese traditional culture and let families from different countries and nationalities learn about Chinese culture.
